kinetic solar-powered installation

dimensions: approx. 20'x 6'x 6' (3.6m x 1.8m x 1.8m)

materials: aluminum stock, motor, mechanical elements, paddle, 2x4 stock, hardware, grommets, rubber, polyethylene sheet, steel, custom electronics, battery, water, solar panels

A solar-powered, outdoor variation of Canoe (2000). Exhibited in northern Canada in Dawson City, Yukon, from late July to early September 2006, Canoe (solar version was graciously hosted by the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture as part of their Natural & Manufactured series.

This work forms a bridge between the modular, energy-harvesting based Lazymode series (2006-2009) and earlier (~2000-2006) monolithic kinetic installations such as Manual.

All of the work done on the solar control circuit was done earlier in the same summer at the Church Basement residency run by Donna Wawzonek and Tim Dallett in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Eventually evolving into the Modified Miller Montréal-Saskatoon Miller Engine (MMSMSE), the circuit became core of the Lazymode series.
